Charles Clines Thompson, 80, of Flatwoods, KY, died Wednesday morning, August 2nd, in Community Hospice Care Center, with his loving family at his bedside. Charles was born December 4, 1936 in Lawrence County, KY, a son of the late Clarence and Exer Preston Thompson, Sr. He was of the Baptist faith, a U.S. Air Force veteran, was retired from the maintenance department at Semet Solvay, an avid musician and mandolin picker, and operated the former Thompson's Cabinet Shop. He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife Betty, a brother, Harold Thompson, a brother-in-law Henry Smith, and a sister-in-law Mable Thompson, two sons-in-law, John Dopler and Danny Rice. Surviving include 4 daughters; Gena Stevens and husband Terry of Raceland, Jo Ann Mullins and husband Tim of Worthington, Ginger Brown and husband Mark of Cannonsburg, and Edwina Hunt and husband Kevin of Westwood. 2 brothers; Clarence Thompson, Jr. and wife Janice of Westwood, and Roger Thompson and wife Sandy of Westwood. A sister; Charlotte Smith of Westwood and a sister-in-law Gaye Thompson of Westwood. 6 grandchildren; Mindi, Missy (Steve), Melanie, KC (Katie), Adam and Kenton. 6 great grandchildren; Jordan, Trevor, Ty, Malachi, Charles, and Vivian, and a great great grandson; Xander. Charles never met a stranger and his friends were many. He loved his family dearly and they were always the most important thing to him. Funeral services will be Monday, August 7th, at 11:00 AM at Preston Family Funeral Home by Brother Mike Rice. Burial will be in Dixon Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5 - 8 PM.
