Creed Wilson Thomas, 83, of Wurtland, died very peacefully Saturday, March 18, 2017, at his residence.
Mr. Thomas was born Feb. 21, 1934, in Greenup, the baby son of the late Lowell and Laura Bays Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Thomas, Cecil Thomas and Edward Thomas; and two sisters, Mabel Tackett and Hazel Middleton.
He was an elder at Old Regular Baptist Church for more than 42 years and a member of Little Pond Church in Union Association. He travelled many miles preaching God's word. He retired from CSX Railroad with 36 years of service and was a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Bonnie Penix Thomas; a son, Greg and Tammy Thomas of Wurtland; a brother, Andy Earl Thomas of South Point, Ohio; a sister, Francis Bates of Flatwoods; two grandchildren, Heather and John Woods and Melissa and Derrick Suttles; three great-grandchildren, Emily Woods, Josie Woods and Brody Suttles; special first cousins, Sheila and Bob Taylor; a host of brothers and sisters from the church and a host of friends.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Elders A.B. Thacker, Jimmy Dale Sanders, Jerry Overstreet and Bobby Robinson. Burial will be in Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and after noon Wednesday at the funeral home.
