David Russell Salyers, 63, of Bryson City, N.C., formerly of Boyd County and Paintsville, passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, in Mission Hospital in Ashville, N.C.
Mr. Salyers was born July 5, 1953, in Paintsville, to the late Russell and Virgie Stambaugh Salyers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents who helped raise him, Bruce and Elizabeth "Lizzy" Wheeler Stambaugh; a sister, Lana Kay Salyers; father-in-law, William F. Trimble; a good friend and neighbor, Betty Singletary Spray; and a fur baby, Buster.
David was a graduate of Johnson Central High School and later received his Certified Nursing Assistant degree and retired from Cherokee Indian Hospital in North Carolina. He loved being outdoors and liked hunting, archery, panning for gold and seeing wildlife.
David leaves behind his adoring wife of 22 years, Rhena Trimble Salyers; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Anna and Kyle Call; mother-in-law, Martha Trimble; best friends, Jimmie and Marie Pennington; their son, Josh and his children, Jayden, Kaden and Hailey Jo who were like a great-neice and nephews to him; a special cousin, Larry Stambaugh and his son, Nathan; aunt Reona Trimble; hunting buddy, Pat Nolan; good friend and neighbor, Charles Spray; many more cousins and friends; and his beloved fur babies, Rusty, Katie, Peanut, Polly and Smokey.
Funeral services for Mr. Salyers will be at 1: p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at Neal Funeral Home, 2409 Center Street in Catlettsburg. Pastors Gary Arrington and David Trimble will officiate and Jimmie Pennington will give the eulogy. Final resting place will be in Ashland Cemetery.
