David Earl Tanner, 70, of Flatwoods, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 12, 2017, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born Nov. 9, 1946, in Welch, W.Va., a son of the late Alexander Edward and Mabel Mae Hurley Tanner.
He was a retired Kentucky State Police Sergeant, a member of Flatwoods Church of Christ and a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Shelly Thacker Tanner; two sons, Timothy David Tanner and wife Tracie of Richmond and Ben Tanner and wife Carla of Raceland; four grandchildren, Hannah Nicole Tanner, Cole Tanner, Tyler Austin Tanner and Abby Brooke Tanner; an aunt and his second mother, Sharon Stowers of Iaeger, W.Va.; and a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Flatwoods Church of Christ with Brother Mark Day officiating. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods with graveside services by Kentucky State Police Honor Guard and Portsmouth American Legion Post 23.
Visitation will from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017, and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Kentucky State Police Troopers will serve as Pallbearers with Denny Deskins and Mont Wheeler serving as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Flatwoods Church of Christ or Community Hospice in Ashland.
Wright's Funeral Home in Greenup has been entrusted with the arrangements.
