Don C. Dooley, 88, of Ormond Beach, Fla., formerly of Ashland, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, April 27, 2017, in the Emory L. Bennett Veteran's Nursing Home in Daytona Beach, Fla.
He was born Jan. 31, 1929, a son of the late Anne Howard and Glen Dooley Sr. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Dooley Jr. (Louise); his special aunt and uncle who helped raise him, Nora and Henry Seitz; and his stepgrandson, Jason M. Goodwin.
He was a graduate of Holy Family High School and Marshall University. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948-1952. While in the Air Force he rose to the rank of Technical Sergeant and served as an administrative noncommissioned officer in the Office of the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Pentagon under the direction of General Omar Bradley. Upon exiting the military he began his career at Ashland Oil Inc., and ultimately retired from South Point Ethanol in 1993.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Janice Haney Dooley of Ormond Beach, Fla.; his sister, Betty Furlani (Andy) of Ft. Meyers, Fla.; his children, Cheryl Vass, Dana Goodwin (Michael) and James Dooley (Susan) all of Ashland; his grandchildren, Jason Wells of Ashland, Molly Tarr of Nashville, PFC Patrick Dooley of Fort Knox and Maggie Dooley of Ashland; stepgrandchildren, Lauren Goodwin Tucker (Joel) of Liberty Township, Ohio, and Jonathan Goodwin and Sophie Goodwin both of Austin, Texas; a great-granddaughter, Halley Rowe of Huntington; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Margeaux, Silas and Holden Tucker all of Liberty Township.
Don was a wonderful husband and devoted father and loved spending time with his children.
A memorial service and celebration of his life will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Russell.
Don will be missed by his wife, family, friends and the incredible caregivers at the V.A. nursing home, but they have peace about his eternal life in Christ Jesus.
