Flossie Marie Bailey, 93, of Route 1 Greenup, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Bailey was born Sept. 24, 1923, in Danleyton, a daughter of the late Challie and Bessie Adams Yates.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Earl G. Bailey; two brothers, Dorsie Yates and Challie Yates; and two sons-in-law, Steve West and Benjamin Rickard
Flossie was a long-time educator in Greenup County School System starting in the old two room school house in Danleyton. She taught for more than 30 years. After retiring she stayed active in education. She was a member of Greenup Retired Teachers Association and Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority of Distinguished Women Educators. She was a member of Wurtland Missionary Baptist Church and was proud to be a Sunday school teacher for many years.
She is survived by one son, Garriett "Jad" (Nancy) Bailey of Argillite; one daughter, Jane Ann West Rickard of Argillite; one brother, Ossie Yates of Titusville, Fla.; six grandchildren, Garriett (Lea) Bailey, Leea (Kelly) Bristow, Steven (Teresa) West, Megan (Travis) Moore and Jennifer (David) Sutphin; and seven great-grandchildren, Caleb West, Shalyn West, Quintan Farrow, Abby Moore, Layla Moore, Emma Bailey, Evelyn Bailey.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup with Dr. Tom Melvin officiating. Burial will be in Bailey-Reeves Cemetery in Argillite.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
