Gladys Evelyn Thacker Liles, 90, of Camp Dix, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born April 26, 1926, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Edgar and Evelyn Smith Thacker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Liles; one son, Orvin Nolen Jr.; one brother, Homer Thacker; and one sister, Mary Ellen Applegate.
Gladys was a member of Blankenship Christian Holiness church. She retired from U.S. Shoe Factory after 25 years of service and worked for the Lewis County School System at Laurel Elementary School as a grandmother for 18 years. Gladys was a Laurel Elementary School Hometown Hero and a Kentucky colonel. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, canning, traveling and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Gladys was greatly loved by her church family, students, school faculty and community.
Gladys is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Fonda Jo Newport and Thomas of Chester, Va., and Margaret Stroth and David of Ashland; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Ernest Thacker of Mansfield, Ohio; and one daughter-in-law, Joyce Ann Nolen of Greenwood, Ind.; and many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Globe Family Funeral Chapel in Camp Dix with Brother Jerry Bloomfield and Brother Jack Hinton officiating. Burial will be in Liles Cemetery in Camp Dix. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017, and after 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
