Gordon W. Moore Sr., 86, of Ashland, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Gordon was born Feb. 7, 1931, in Hippo, a son of the late E.C. and Alice Patrick Moore.
Gordon was a graduate of Ashland High School and a Korean War Veteran. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954 and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was stationed in Japan and Korea with the 1102nd Base Flight Squadron as a B-26 Air Crew Chief.
Gordon was employed by Sears Roebuck & Company for a short time before becoming self-employed and joining the late Harold Griffith as part owner of the former Griffith Moore Motor Company. He retired after many years serving the needs of the tri-state area in the automobile industry.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Doris Greening Moore of Ashland; two daughters, Debra Massie and Candy (Gary) Mastin, all of Ashland; two sons, Gordon W. Moore of Lexington and Greg Moore of Ashland; five granddaughters, Amanda Mastin, Kristin Mastin, Kelli Mastin, Jordan Moore and Taylor Moore; two great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
A service to celebrate Gordon's life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel in Ashland with Chaplain Dan Godwin officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland with full military rites.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
