Jack's Story

Jack L. Brown Sr., 81, of Ashland, died Saturday, March 18, 2017, in Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center under the care of Community Hospice.
He was born April 21, 1935 in Ashland, the son of the late Robert and Bertha Barber Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Conley.
He was retired from the utilities department with the City of Ashland with 28 years of service and a member of the Ashland Elks Lodge 350 for 40 years.
Jack enjoyed fishing, golfing and spending time with family and friends and was an avid University of Kentucky Wildcat fan.
Survivors include his wife, Lorriene Mullins Brown; a son, Jack L. (Jenie Mills) Brown Jr. of Ashland; two brothers, Robert (Jane) Brown of Muncie, Ind., and Bill Brown of Ashland; five sisters, Peggy Meade, Brenda Miller, Linda Miller, Sandy (Tony Walker) Patton and Debbie Brown (Roger Forrest) Cyrus all of Ashland; a grandchild, Jordan Brown of Flatwoods; three stepgrandchildren, Loni Jo (Matt) Campbell of Ashland, Michele (Greg) Hazlett Staten of Ashland, and Nicole Brown of Cincinnati, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Haley Delong, Emily Staten, Josie Campbell and Brayden Mills all of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland by Brother Thorny Artrip. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. with an Elks service by the Ashland Lodge at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be his son and nephews and good friends serving as honorary pallbearer.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101 or the Ashland Elk's Children's Christmas Party, 900 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
