James Randall Boggs, 67, of Greenup, went to be with the Lord, Monday, June 5, 2017, in Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Boggs was born Feb. 14, 1950, in Ashland, a son of Mildred Geneva Meadows Claxon, the late James Heirm Boggs and his stepfather, Walter Fletcher, who raised him.
In addition to his father and stepfather, he was preceded in death by one son, Roy Newland Jr.
James was a member of Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Oldtown. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam War Veteran. He loved to work on old classic cars and he enjoyed watching football, especially the Cleveland Browns.
He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Hazel A. Sullivan Boggs; one son, James Boggs II of Scottown, Ohio; four daughters, Tina and Gary Harris of Pickerington, Ohio, Rhiannon and Roger Emerson of Christiansburg, Va., Jamie Boggs of Worthington, Ohio, and Genoria and Bob Waggoner of Greenup; one brother, Ricky Fletcher of Oldtown; two sisters, Phyllis Pope of Oldtown and Wilma and Jim Stephens of Oldtown; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2017, at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Oldtown with Pastor John Lybrook officiating. Burial will be in Boggs Cemetery in Warnock with military rites performed by Portsmouth, Ohio American Legion Post 23.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup and after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
