James Arthur Salyers, 79, of Grayson, went to be with his Lord Wednesday, Feb. 1 2017, after an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 18, 1937, in Boyd County, a son of the late James Thomas and Anna Stewart Salyers.
He was preceded in death by two grandsons; a great-grandchild; and one brother, Elmer Lee Salyers.
He was retired from Kentucky Electric Steel and was a founding member of EK Railroad Band. He attended Wilson Creek Missionary Baptist Church and former pastor of Dixie Park Freewill Baptist Church. Music was his greatest passion other than God and his family.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy Steele Salyers; two sons, Mike (MaryJo) Salyers of Grayson and Jamie Salyers of Grayson; two daughters, Melody Salyers Gumm of Ashland and Sarah Conley and husband Bryan of Catlettsburg; three sisters, Mary Pinkerton of Cannonsburg, Flora Salyers and husband Ron Rye of Conway, Ar., and Alice Oney; three brothers, Noah Salyers and wife Deloris of Ebro, Fla., Marvin Salyers and wife Joann of Cannonsburg and Joe Salyers and wife Mary Lou of Cannonsburg; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of other nieces, nephews and relatives to mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Minister Joed Rice officiating. Burial will be in Salyers-Steele Family Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
