James Ray "Jimmy" Stamper, 91, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, in Morning Pointe in Russell.
Mr. Stamper was born Jan. 10, 1926, in Farmers, a son of the late Harry and Corda Cornette Stamper.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Stamper, in 1993; brothers Kenneth Stamper and Jerry Stamper; and sisters Lucille Gant, Bernice Gant and Anna Lou Perry.
Mr. Stamper served in the U.S. Army with the military police from 1946 to 1947 in occupied Japan. He retired from CSX in 1989 after 45 years of service as a brakeman and conductor. He was a member of Shawnee Church of God in Flatwoods.
He is survived by his son, James A. Stamper and wife Pam of Ashland; his daughter, Deborah K. Adkins and husband Steve of Nicholasville; two grandchildren, Joshua (Melissa) Adkins and Lisa (Jason) Kidd, both of Georgetown; three great-grandchildren, Eli, Kamden and Wyatt; a brother, Charles Stamper of California; and a host of extended family and friends,
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at Steen Funeral Home, Central Avenue Chapel by Pastor Rob Jordan. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park with full military rites.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
