Jerry Richard Sexton, 71, of Huntington, W.Va., formerly of Catlettsburg, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Aug. 15, 1946, in Louisville, a son of the late Gordon Lee and Rena Grace McQuigg Sexton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carrie Elizabeth Clarkston Sexton in 2008.
Jerry was a graduate of Marshall University. He retired after 20 years of service from Federal Judge Robert Staker's office in Huntington. Prior to that he worked as a police officer in Detroit, Mich. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his grandchildren and family.
He is survived by two daughters, Leslie Sexton Pope (Austin) of Huntington, W.Va., and Diana Lynn Sexton of Ashland; a brother, Ronald Sexton (Mary) of Nevada; and four adoring grandchildren, Anthony Pierce Boyd, Joseph Parker Boyd, Raiden Lee Pope and Caraighan Faith Pope.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be at noon Tuesday, June 13 2017, at Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel in Ashland with Pastor Danny Clarkston officiating. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County with military rites by U. S. Army and Kenova American Legion Post 93.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2017, at the funeral home.
