Jo Ann's Story
Jo Ann Kerns, 83, of Cannonsburg, went home to be with the Lord Friday, June 9, 2017, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 5, 1933, in Boyd County, a daughter of the late John Dee and Egie James Nunnery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gaileon Emmerson "Coke" Kerns in 2016; a beloved son, Keith Justice in 2007; and two sisters, Billie Vanderpool and Barbara Carter.
Jo Ann was a very involved member of Chadwick's Creek Missionary Baptist Church. She formerly served as church secretary, assisted with preparing church meals, cleaning and anything else the church needed. She adored her church family and was happiest being in the church and serving her Lord.
She was a graduate of Boyd County High School and Pikeville Beauty College. She owned and operated her own salon and retired from Huntington Alloy. She loved riding horses, being outdoors and was an accomplished painter.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter-in-law, Lynne Justice of Catlettsburg; two grandchildren, Hollie Justice and her husband, Seth Clanton and Aaron Justice and his Fiancé, Hannah Durham; three great-grandchildren, Keith Riley Justice, Amery Justice and Charley Jo Justice; an a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
A celebration of Jo Ann's life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland with words of comfort provided by Pastor Bobby Ekers. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
