JoAnn's Story

JoAnn Ramey Halleck went to be with her Lord, Tuesday, March 28, 2017.
Mrs. Halleck was born Nov. 3, 1930, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Renny and Nell Fitch Ramey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Ronald B. Halleck; and her sister, Donna Miller.
A faithful member of First Baptist Church in Ashland, she volunteered in the "Crisis Closet" and was honored for her 25 years of volunteer service in the Church nursery.
She was a loving mother to her five children and was very involved in their lives in sports and school, serving as an officer in the PTA and homeroom mother for several years. She was especially proud that all five of her children were college graduates.
A seventh generation Kentuckian, she was a homemaker always caring for family and friends. Her hobbies included sewing and reading. For many years, Mrs. Halleck and husband Ronald, owned and operated the First Edition clothing stores in Ashland and Russell, where she shared her love of fashion.
She and her husband were active members of the Boyd/Greenup County Chamber of Commerce. Formally an active member and officer of the Boyd County Republican Woman's Club, she was always at her husband's side during his political career.
Mrs. Halleck loved traveling, cruises, going to lunch and movies with her family and friends. She was a scholar and a lifelong learner. She graduated Salutatorian of the 1947 class at Russell High School and attended Ashland Junior College.
Lovingly known as MamaJo, her love of reading was passed down to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be long remembered for her kindness and good deeds towards family, friends and anyone in need. She was the "ultimate lady" till her final day.
The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to her caregivers, Cecilia Stout and Cindy Cox for the excellent care that was provided to Mrs.Halleck.
She is survived by her five children, Jennifer Griffith (Terry) of Ashland and North Beach, Md., Michael Halleck (Christine) of Salem Ohio, Celeste J. Halleck of Ashland, Dr. Teresa Huber of Maysville and Kristina Dixon (King, III) of Stafford, Va; seven grandchildren, Kim Joiner, Benjamin Joiner, Sean Joiner, Kristina Griffith, Mariah Halleck, Rachel Ratliff and Drew Watts; seven great-grandchildren, Rylee Ann Joiner, Alexander Brugh Joiner, Brayden Scott Anderson, Natalie Grace Anderson, James Allen Franklin, Taylor Michelle Watts and Carter Drew Watts; a brother, Larry E Ramey of Dallas, Texas; and additional family and friends.
Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, April 1, 2017, at First Baptist Church in Ashland.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2017, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood and after 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
