John Cecil "J.C." McDowell, 75, of Westwood, passed away Monday, April 3, 2017, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.
J.C. was born Feb. 20, 1942, to the late Martin and Margaret McCown McDowell.
In addition to his parents, J.C. was preceded in death by a brother, Gene McDowell; and two sisters, Doris Sparks and Annette Moore.
He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force, where he achieved the rank of Airman Second Class. He later worked for ARMCO Steel, where he retired as a torch operator after 33 years of service. J.C. was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church and attended the Outreach Sunday School Class. He was a past president of Westwood Lions Club and a member of Steel Workers Local 1875. J.C. was an avid drag car racer and spent lots of time at the drag strip in Owensville.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 43 years, Judy Mayberry, McDowell of Westwood; one daughter, Shawna Mae (Charles) Hamilton of Richmond; three brothers, Loval (Sandy) McDowell of Ashland, Mike (Sue) McDowell of Maysville and Jim (Carole) McDowell of Ashland; two brothers-in-law, Fred Sparks and Ottis Moore, both of Ashland; two grandchildren, J.C. Hamilton and Kennedy Hamilton, who were the apples of his eye; and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2017, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood with Pastor Michael D. Rice officiating. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the funeral home.
