Johnny's Story

Johnny Bert Parsons, 80, of Olive Hill, entered into rest Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at home.
He was born Aug. 15, 1936, in Olive Hill, a son of the late Russell "Mulberry" and Thelma Taylor Parsons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell Parsons Jr., Earl Parsons, Thomas Parsons and Dennis Parsons; one brother-in-law, Carmel Stevens; and one sister, Ruth Parsons.
John dedicated his life to Christ over 60 years ago. He faithfully served him and shared his love for Christ with all his students and fellow teachers. He taught Sunday school and was Sunday School superintendent for many years.
As a retired Carter County teacher, Mr. Parsons' passion for science impacted generations of students during his 40 year teaching career. His enthusiasm and knowledge was inspirational and encouraging to students and fellow teachers alike. As a middle school science teacher, he had a very special gift that allowed him to share his love of entomology and rocket science in a way that made it fun for everyone. Johnny also coached volleyball and basketball for over thirty years.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia Gayle Davis Parsons; one son, John Jason Parsons and wife Cyndi of Dayton, Ohio; one daughter, April Lynn Caron and husband Richard of Ashland; one sister, Betty Doris Stevens of Olive Hill; three grandchildren, Braeden Michael Caron, Brennon Storm Caron and BenRylan True Caron; and a host of family and friends that will sadly morn his passing.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Olive Hill with Brother Eddie Porter and Brother J.C. Bond Officiating. Burial will be in Garvin Ridge Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, July 28, 2017, at the funeral home.
