Leroy's Story

Text size

Mr. Leroy Danner, the youngest child of the late David Walter and Anna Susan Humphries Danner left his earthly home Monday, September 11, 2017, from Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky.
Leroy, 93, was born at the family farm on Jordan Fork outside Olive Hill on February 9, 1924.
After proudly serving his country in the United States Army during WWII, he returned home from Europe to work on the farm and several other jobs. He later became employed by the Carter County Board of Education transporting students to and from school. Many parents said he was so prompt they could set their watch when the bus passed their home. Leroy enjoyed carpentry and was proud to be part of the clearing of the Jenny Wiley Trail.
Always an outdoorsman, he enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. Louise would prepare delicious meals with what he would catch. Setting on the porch talking to family, friends and his dog was pure enjoyment. He could identify the trees in the forest and knew the name of the bird singing in a tree. He knew it was all heaven sent and "the shade came free with the tree."
In his later years he enjoyed watching the Kentucky Wildcats and the Cincinnati Reds. He had a passion for his furry friends and will be greatly missed by the "girls", Millie and Queenie along with Max the cat.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Gertrude Danner, Essie (Tivis) Fannin, Alma (Virgil) Allendar, Olive (Andy) Tackett, Ethel (Orville) Humphries, Thelma (William) Mills and George Danner.
Leroy is survived by his partner and help mate of 70 years, Louise McGlone Danner; one daughter, Barbara Kay Stevens Roe of Olive Hill, Kentucky; and one granddaughter, Stacey Danette Stevens of Grayson, Kentucky; and one sister-in-law, Audrey Danner. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, family members and good neighbors who will miss sharing stories with him.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2017, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Kentucky, with Brother Gary Sparks officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery in Olive Hill, Kentucky, with full military honors presented by the Olive Hill American Legion Post 138.
Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 14, 2017, and after 9 a.m. on Friday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West Highway US 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky 41164.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Condolences may be sent to the family at globefc.com.
