Lloyd Lowe, 95, of Olive Hill, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 16, 1922, in Carter County, a son of the late Lewis and Mona Mauk Lowe.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Jessie Fultz Lowe in 2013; one daughter, Retha Lowe Pursel in 2009; one son-in-law, Gary Mozingo in 2011; one brother, Arlie Lowe; one sister, Velda Lynn Lowe Roe; four infant siblings; two sisters-in-law, Betty Lowe and Marcella Lowe; and two brothers-in-law, Henry Jacobs and Ernest Roe.
Lloyd attended Olive Hill High School before entering the army during World War II. He always enjoyed telling about his war time experiences from serving in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. Lloyd was a life-long farmer, taking pride in raising Hereford cattle.
He was a long time member of Olive Hill Christian Church, perhaps the oldest living member at the time of his death. Lloyd was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and a Kentucky colonel. He enjoyed researching family history and Carter County genealogy.
Lloyd is survived by three daughters, Rosetta Lowe-Maddix and husband Clyde of Pendleton, S.C., Brenda Mozingo and Caffie Caudill and husband Gary, the son-in-law that Lloyd loved and always depended on, all of Olive Hill; two grandchildren, Shawna Erbe (James) of West Milford, N.J., and Dylan Pursel of Morehead; three brothers, Carmel Lowe, George Lowe and wife Pauline, all of Olive Hill and Elmer Lowe and wife Idell of Grayson; one sister, Aline Jacobs of Olive Hill; and many other family members, church family and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with The Rev. David Shanklin and The Rev. Ron Arnett officiating. Burial will be in East Carter Memory Gardens in Grayson with full military rites presented by Olive Hill American Legion Post 138.
Friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2017, and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Gary Caudill, Dylan Pursel, James Erbe, Roger Lowe, Lee Lowe, and Mike Lowe will serve as pallbearers. Jim McCormick, Huey Lowe, Donnie Carroll, Clyde Maddix, Ben Harmon, Steve Lowe, Terry Lowe, and Jeff Layne will serve as honorary pallbearers.
