Martha Magdalene Waggoner Burke, 87, of Grayson, went to be with her Lord Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, in Elliott Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sandy Hook.
Magdalene was born April 16, 1929, in Hitchins, a daughter of the late George and Audie Wells Waggoner. In addition to her parents, Magdalene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, William Everett Burke.
Magdalene was baptized in 1949 and was a life-long member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ where she often volunteered and was a Sunday school teacher. She was a cheerleader for Hitchins High School class of 1947. She loved being a mother, taking care of her precious children and enjoyed their visits while sitting in her rocking chair. She enjoyed cooking, raising her flowers, sewing and making clothing. She also worked several years as a teacher's aide at Star and Prichard Elementary Schools.
Magdalene is survived by a daughter, Saundra and Roger Gillum; a son, Bill and Sherry Burke; and a sister, Nadine Davis all of Grayson. She leaves several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services will be at noon Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Donald Damron and Delmar Rogers officiating. Burial will be in the East Carter County Memory Gardens.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
