Mary Ellen Baker Day, 68, of Catlettsburg, parted this life Tuesday Aug. 1, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born June 27, 1949, in Hyden, to the late John D. and Della Fouts Baker of Smilax.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by two brothers, Rufus Baker and Grover Baker; two sisters, Lula Wells and Iness Singletary; a son, Christopher Day; two grandsons, Charles Ray "Bub" Day III and Zachary Ulengchong; and a nephew, Kenny Baker.
She was a student at Leslie County High School. Mary was a member of Fallsburg Homemakers in Louisa. She worked at Rankins Grocery, Nanny's Place and Boyds Varity. Mary was a faithful member of Laurel Gap Free Will Baptist Church in Catlettsburg. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a dedicated hard worker until she became ill.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Charles Ray Day; a son, Charles "Catfish" Day Jr. (Love) of Dunlow, W.Va.; three daughters, Connie (James) Carter of Louisa, Trina (Keith) Boyd of Louisa and Gina (Pete) Ulengchong of Columbia, S.C.; one sister, Beulah Callahan of Hyden; two sisters-in-law, Ruthie Baker of Smilax and Beth Baker of Texas; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
She will forever be loved and missed by everyone.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, at Neal Funeral Home, 2409 Center Street in Catlettsburg with Pastor J.C. Caudill officiating. Final resting place will be in Blankenship/Day Cemetery. Mary's family will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, at the funeral home.
