Mary Karolyn Spillman Reams, 88, of Ashland, passed away Friday, April 7, 2017, at her home surrounded my her loved ones and Boo, her life long Fox Terrier friend.
Mrs. Reams was born April 2, 1929, in Keystone, W.Va., a daughter of the late Karl Thomas Spillmen and Sudie Forester Spillman.
She was a homemaker, a mother to five children and loved her dog "Boo". She was a dog Breeder, owner, and handler of Fox Terriers. Mrs. Reams was a Kentucky colonel and music graduate from Centre College in Danville. She raised, bred and trained Champion American Saddle Bred Horses. She was a Member of American Fox Terriers Association, DAR and Colonial Dames. She loved Opera and frequented the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. She was member of Huntington Opera Guild and a long time member of First Baptist Church in Ashland.
Mrs. Reams is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Dr. Gerald Brock Reams, MD; two sons, Boyd County District Judge Gerald Brock Reams Jr. and wife Mary Beth of Ashland and Dr. Mark Thomas Reams, DMD of Louisville; three daughters, Dr. Mary Martha Reams, MD of Ashland, Carol Anne Hromyak and husband George of Frankfort and Dr. Lynn Ellen Shelbune, DMD and husband Robert of Taylorsville; one sister, Martha Spillman McGuire and husband EE of Ashland; nine grandchildren, Devon, Chelsey, Dana, Whitney, Allison, Gray, Abby, Maggie and Leah; three great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Visitation will be after noon Sunday at the funeral home.
