Melvin Lawhorn Sr., 81, of Ashland, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017, at his home.
Mr. Lawhorn was born Nov. 30, 1935, in Ashland, to the late Miles and Ethel Shelton Lawhorn.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Leah Hutchinson Lawhorn in 2014; and a brother, Clifford Lawhorn.
Melvin was a 1954 graduate of Ashland High School. He retired as a welder from the railroad in 1971 and as a heavy equipment operator from AK Steel in 1996. He was past president of N.E. Kentucky Fish and Game, a member of Louisa Bass Club, Bass Anglers Sportsman Society and United Steel Workers Union.
Melvin is survived by two sons, Melvin Lawhorn Jr. and wife Kimberly of Ashland and Michael Lawhorn and wife Rosetta of Argillite; one grandchild, Michelle Meadows of Greenup; three great-grandchildren, Laney, Braden and J.T.; two brothers, Bob (Ann) Lawhorn of Florida and Miles Lawhorn Jr. of Tennessee; two sisters, Francis Conley of Summitt and Roberta Lawhorn of Ashland; and special canine companion, Maggie.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation will be after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
