Michael's Story

Michael H. Cavin, 51, of Ironton, departed his earthly home on September 2, 2017. He was reunited with his proud parents the late Fredrick and Margaret Gayle Walbright.
Michael was more than just a loving father, brother, nephew and son, he was a best friend to everyone who knew him. His positivity and smile could inspire and light up an entire room.
Michael was born on October 6, 1965, in Lawrence County, Ohio, and was a 1985 graduate of Ironton High School where he played football for the Fighting Tigers and proudly wore the #72.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Margaret Gayle and Fred J. Walbright; and his maternal grandparents, Grayden and Fern Lynd.
He is survived by the joy of his life, his son, Tyler Michael Curtis Cavin of Ashland, Kentucky; his former wife of 29 years and best friend, Cheryl Cavin; two loving sisters, Debi Walbright of San Antonio, Texas, and Amy (James) Rowe of Ironton, Ohio; a brother, Greg (Beth) Walbright of Ironton, Ohio; nieces and nephews, Johnny Blevins of Houston, Texas, Travis (Katie) Wagner of Columbus, Ohio, Kaleb McCaffery, Marybeth Schwab and Cody and Hayley Rowe all of Ironton, Ohio; a great-nephew, Beau Wagner of Columbus, Ohio; special aunts and uncles, Barbara Sue (Mike) Saunders of Deland, Florida, Greg (Catalina) Lynd of St. Augustine, Florida, and Della Lynd of Circleville, Ohio.
Michael prided himself on leadership leading a winning team at his job at McDonald's for more than twenty years encouraging everyone along the way. Mike was a current employee of AT&T in Huntington, West Virginia.
In 2006, he became an ordained minister at the City Mission Church in Ironton, Ohio, where he spread the gospel from jails to nursing home ministries. He was also a founding member of Freedom Baptist Church where he served for many years on the missionary board as a bible school teacher, youth leader, outreach minister and sang in the choir. He served as pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Westwood, Kentucky. Michael was of Baptist Faith.
Mike was involved with the community from coaching little league to helping at charitable events even riding in a pink cadillac from time to time. He loved life and love bringing a smile and joy to others.
Michael's greatest love was sports. He was avid football fan and loved watching The Ohio State Buckeyes and Ironton Football and his favorite player was number 65, his nephew, Cody Rowe.
A celebration of Michael's life will be Friday, September 8, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 South 6th Street, Ironton, Ohio, with Pastor Scott Jenkins and Rev. Jeff Cremeans officiating, followed by a burial at Woodland cemetery.
Visitation for friends and family will be Friday, 11 a.m. until time of the service.
Everyone is invited to wear their favorite sports team's jersey to celebrate Michael and his love for the game.
