Michael's Story

Michael "Mike" Keith Hewlett, 68, of Greenup, went to be with the Lord Friday, June 16, 2017, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mike was born April 5, 1949, in Ironton, Ohio, a son of the late Delmar and Wilma Heaberlin Hewlett.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Cole Thomas.
Mike retired as a steelworker after 47 years from AK Steel and was President of The United Steelworkers Local Union 1865 for 18 years. He was a past Commander of the American Legion Post 43 in Raceland. He was a member of the Ashland Fraternal Order of Eagles Daniel Boone Aerie 2329 and Ashland Moose Lodge. He was a Kentucky colonel and inducted into the Raceland-Worthington High School Football Hall of Fame. Mike is a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran who proudly served his country.
Mike was of the Christian faith and gave his life to the Lord one week before he passed away.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Donna Queen Hewlett; a daughter, Christy (Kenny) Reed of Worthington; a son, Jake (Amy) Hewlett of Worthington; two sisters, Baunita Rice of Worthington and Marlena (Ralph Matheny) Ross of Flatwoods; three brothers, Jarold (Martha) Hewlett of Russell, Darrel (Sandy) Hewlett of Flatwoods and Delmar Ray (Jeannie) Hewlett of Worthington; and eight grandchildren, Chase Thomas, Gavin Reed, Willow Reed, AJ Hewlett, Maddie Hewlett, Kylor Smith, Alex McNutt and Nick Wilson.
Funeral services will be at noon Monday, June 19, 2017, at United Steelworkers Hall, 734 Carter Avenue in Ashland with Rev. Paul Neal officiating. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County with military rights performed by Kenova American Legion Post 93.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 18, 2017, at the Steelworkers Hall.
