Michael O. McCarty, 74, of Grayson, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, May 2, 2017, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, following a sudden illness.
Michael was born May 13, 1942, in Boyd County, a son of Gladys Hicks of Catlettsburg and the late Ollie McCarty.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Dustyn McCarty; and a sister, Joann Helms.
He was retired from CSX Railroad and was of the Christian faith. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Gaynell Kouns McCarty; a son, James (Lori) McCarty of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Beverly (Terry) Whitley of Franklin Furnace, Ohio: a stepson, Scott (Mysti) Brammell of Tualatin, Ore.; two sisters, Gertrude Tackett of Catlettsburg and Margaret Helms of Ashland; three grandchildren, Keelee McCarty, Will Whitley and Brianna Whitley; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson with Bernard Kouns officiating. Burial will in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland with military rites and escort by Kenova American Legion Post 93 and the Patriot Guard.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
