Ronald Gene Dixon, 78, of Ashland, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland surrounded by his loving family.
Ron was born Feb. 7, 1939, in Ashland, the son of the late Lloyd and Mable Brown Dixon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Joan Lambert, Barbara Hazlett and Linda Dixon; a son, Rick Dixon; and a daughter, Amy Dixon.
He graduated from Ashland High School, served in the U.S. Naval Reserves, Kentucky National Guard and retired from General Telephone Company. A talented musician, he was most recently a member of the bluegrass gospel group, The Chadwicks Creek Boys. He was a member of Ashland Gideons, a volunteer chaplain for KDMC, and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where he taught the Crusaders Sunday School class for more than 20 years.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen Carol Greening Dixon; a daughter, Rhonda Dixon of Columbus, Ohio; a granddaughter, Whitney J. Dixon of Highland Heights, Ky.; a sister, Nancy Eastwood of Cincinnati, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and close friends.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday April 2, 2017, at Centenary United Methodist Church located on Winchester Avenue in Ashland with Pastor David Herndon officiating.
Family and friends will be received in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.
