Rosemary Rankin Sturgill, 86, of Lexington, formerly of Ashland, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, in Hospice Care Center in Lexington.
She was born Oct. 24, 1930, in Ashland, the daughter of the late Bert S. and Martha Fannin Rankin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Lee Sturgill Jr.
She was a graduate of Ashland High School and the nursing program at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington. Rosemary worked as a registered nurse for 10 years at Central Baptist Hospital in
Lexington and for 20 years at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell serving the last five years as director of nursing. Later she worked in the practices of Dr. Glenn Boggs and Dr. Michael Ehrie, retiring in 2002. She was a member of Broadway Baptist Church in Lexington and a longtime member of Ashland First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Sturgill of Lexington; three daughters, Jane Leake (Paul) of Atlanta, Ga., Mary Young (Jeff) of Catlettsburg, and Kathy Riddle (Joe) of Atlanta; a son, Jim Sturgill (Edyee) of Bowling Green; two sisters, Geneva Byer of Russell,
and Phyllis Wurts (Harry) of Ashland; seven grandchildren, Andrew Leake, Abby Leake, Adam Young, Emilee Young Sexton, Rob Riddle, Carson Sturgill and Savanna Sturgill; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland with Pastor Ken Gowin officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
The family will receive friends after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
