Wilburn's Story

Wilburn Cleo Chaffin, 90, of Catlettsburg, passed peacefully as he went to be with his Lord Saturday, March 4, 2017, at his home with his adoring family at his side.
Mr. Chaffin was born May 17, 1926, in Louisa, to the late Stant and Lillian Short Chaffin. Wilburn was preceded in death by his parents; daughters Sharon Smith and Doris Chaffin; and brothers, Charles Chaffin, Medley Chaffin and Paul Chaffin.
Wilburn served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during War World II and later worked in construction. He was a good husband, father and grandfather. He loved the outdoors and yard work. Wilburn was a deacon at Ashland Pentecostal Holiness Church, his church was his life.
Surviving is his adoring wife of 72 years, Verna Allen Chaffin; their children, Maria West (Gary) of Catlettsburg, Donald Chaffin (Darlene) of Ashland, Charles Chaffin (Neva) of Catlettsburg and Ruth Stevens (Mark) of Ashland; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service for Mr. Chaffin will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home, 2702 Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Brother Tommy Romans and Pastor Ron Evans will officiate. Final resting place will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens. Military rites by Kenova Post 93 and the U.S. Navy.
