William Wesley Dawson, 90, of Russell, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at his residence.
Mr. Dawson was born May 11, 1926, in Ashland, a son of the late Benny and Ruth Kilbourne Dawson.
Mr. Dawson was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)in Ashland and attended Bridges Christian Church in Russell. He was a member of Ashland American Legion Post 76, a life long member of El Hasa Motor Corps, Poage Masonic Lodge 325, F&AM, Ashland Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. 350 and Ashland Commandery 28 Knights Templar.
Mr. Dawson served his country during World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps.
Mr. Dawson was a longtime machinist and business owner in Ashland. He was given the opportunity to take over the family business and operated Kilbourne Machine Shop for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Dawson of Russell; two sons, Mark R. Dawson and significant other, Lisa Preston of McCormick, S.C. and Lennie W. Dawson and wife Valerie of Hastings, Minn.; and his granddaughter, Amber Dawson.
The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to his caregivers Kelli Davidson and Rachael Gould for the excellent care that was provided to Mr. Dawson.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland with Chaplain Jimm Smedley officiating. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery with full military rites.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
