Alfred "Al" J. Williams, 89, of Ashland, Kentucky, passed on, to be with the Lord, Monday, August 12, 2019.
Alfred was born August 22, 1929, in Logan, West Virginia to Alfred Grayson and Opal Matney Williams.
Al was a graduate of Ashland High School and briefly attended the University of Kentucky before enrolling in the Air Force. He served stateside during the Korean War calibrating radar installations along the U.S.-Canadian border. When his father, Alfred "Barney" Williams, died, he received an honorable discharge and went to work at his father's business, The Barney Williams Company.
Al would go on to be owner or part owner of multiple companies; Ashland Car Parts, Power Products, E&I Supply, and more; at one time employing over 120 people. He formerly served on the Board of Directors of the Ramey home and was a past director of the Bank of Ashland. He was also a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Nelson.
Survivors include Steven Alfred (Kathryn) Williams of Owingsville, Ky., and Michael Franklin (Kimberly) Williams of Ashland; grandchildren, Jennifer Williams (and husband Ilan Weiss), Brian Williams, Karen Conn, Joshua Williams, and Matthew Williams (and wife Brittney); and three great grandchildren, Daisy Conn, Jackson Williams and Jesse Williams.
Al enjoyed family, friends, food, fishing, and boating. A devout Christian, he has gone on to know infinite peace.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2019, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel with Dr. Matt Shamblin officiating. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery where Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Air Force and American Legion Kenova Post 93.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Al gave me my first job out of high school, worked for him over 4 years. I have worked at being machinist now for over 48 years thanks to that start. My thoughts and prayers are with Al's family, may God Bless
