Greenup, Kentucky - Annie Catherine "Ann" Swango Townsend passed away to her heavenly home at 2:14 PM on Dec 6, 2025, at Community Hospice of Ashland Care Center surrounded by her family.

Ann was born on May 11, 1929, in Powell County, Kentucky to the late Taylor and LouEllen Dunn Swango.

Ann was a member of Liberty Methodist Church and Greenup United Methodist Church. She was a band booster when her daughters were in high school band.

Ann and Freida (her best friend) were 20-year volunteers for Meals on Wheels. Ann was a volunteer for Senior Citizens Center in Greenup, she designed and raised money for the riverboat Christmas decorations in Greenup, She and Freida were the 2022 Grand Marshalls at Greenup's Old-Fashioned Days.

Ann was an avid Kentucky Wildcat basketball fan and was an avid golfer until she turned 90 years old. She loved travelling and visited Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Panama, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, and France.

Ann is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband, Virgil Townsend and her siblings; Conley Swango, Gladys Daugherty, Emmanuel Swango, Lonnie Swango, William Swango and Wanda Catron. She is also preceded in death by her special friend, Freida Harmon.

Ann is survived by two daughters, Linda Kendall and her husband Richard and Dorothy Ledger and her husband Charlie; three Grandchildren, Rick Kendall and his wife Jessie, Mark Kendall and his wife Jessica and Katherine Meadows and her husband Lundie; four great grandchildren, Ava and Natalie Kendall and Benjamin and John Kendall; two step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a special friend, Vic Huston who was such a help to her along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the Greenup United Methodist Church by Reverend Nancy Preston. Burial will follow in Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd, KY. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM till the time of the funeral service on Wednesday at the church.
