Ashland, KY - Arthur Martin, Jr., passed away on September 26, 2025, at the age of 84, in Ashland, Kentucky. Born on July 22, 1941, in Bellevue, Ohio, Arthur's life was a testament to his unyielding dedication to his family, his country, and his work.
Arthur's early years were spent in the scenic hills of Ohio and Kentucky, where he grew up with his loving parents, Arthur Martin Sr. and Lexie Moore Martin, along with his siblings. He graduated from Betsy Layne High School in 1959, laying the foundation for a lifetime of learning. Arthur's passion for education led him to Morehead State University, where he earned a degree in Industrial Technology in 1971.
He met the love of his life, Karen Elaine Catlett, and they married in 1987. The marriage also included the addition of a daughter to the family.
Arthur's work ethic and intelligence were evident throughout his career. He retired from Commonwealth Life Insurance Company, where he was respected for his integrity and commitment, having served in many capacities from sales to management with agency's in several states. His service to his country was equally commendable, as he served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. Arthur's sense of duty extended to his community as well, where he was a proud Kentucky Colonel and was a Master Mason of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky, F.&A.M. Morehead Lodge #654.
His kind and friendly nature made him a beloved figure in his community and among his colleagues. Arthur's intelligence was not only reflected in his career but also in the wisdom he shared with his family and friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Karen Elaine Martin; his son, Arthur Dean Martin, and daughter-in-law, Laura; his daughter, Carrie Yarnell Ramer, and son-in-law, Brad; his cherished grandchildren, Samantha Martin Spencer (Andrew), Ethan Hunter Martin, Nicholas Logan Martin, Jacob Logan Yarnell, Abigail Rose Yarnell, and Ryanne Orlanie Ramer; and his adored great-granddaughter, Margaret Jane Spencer. He is also survived by his brother, Ralph Martin, and his sister, Peggy Sellards (Jack), along with his special niece and nephew, Stefanie Goble and Jerry Michael Martin, and a host of additional nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Arthur's love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life, and he took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and their families.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jeffery Paul Martin, a grandchild Cay Yarnell, and his brothers Henry Jackson Martin and Jerry Jay Martin. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his memory will continue to inspire and guide us.
Arthur Martin, Jr. lived a life marked by service, and an unshakeable commitment to the well-being of others. His legacy will be cherished and upheld by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we bid farewell to Arthur, we celebrate a life well-lived and honor a man who was truly the embodiment of kindness, friendship, and intelligence.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am Thursday, October 2, 2025 at the ROSE HILL BAPTIST CHURCH by Dr. Matt Shamblin. Burial with military honors will follow at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm at the STEEN FUNERAL HOME 13TH STREET CHAPEL with a masonic service slated to begin at 7:00pm.
