Billy Ray Stephens, 76, of Wurtland, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, at his residence, with his family by his side.

Billy Ray was born Dec. 19, 1940, to the late Charles and Ruth Shepard Stephens.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phillis Doretha Stephens and their daughter, Tena Louis Stephens.

Billy Ray was a member of Westwood Freewill Baptist Church, Greenup County Commissioner and owner of SSJ Trucking.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Sue Stephens of Wurtland; a son, Dennis Wayne Stephens and wife Nancy of Flatwoods; his brothers, Paul Stephens of Daniels Fork and Jerry Stephens of Wurtland; his sisters, Barbara Sherman of Ashland, Connie Jacobs of Flatwoods, Betty Keeton of Middletown, Ohio, Patty Tackett of Lloyd and Linda Linkous of Flatwoods; his stepchildren, John Edgar Gillum and wife Amanda of Wurtland, Travis Lee Gillum and wife Jennifer of Lloyd and Erica Gillum Hunt and husband David of Wurtland; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, at Westwood Freewill Baptist Church with Brother Ivan Asbury and Pastor Chester Keathley officiating. Burial will be in Sparks/Happy Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017, at Wurtland Church of God and after 10 a.m. Friday at Westwood Freewill Baptist Church.

In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice.
