Coal Grove, Ohio - Carol L. Gool, 85 of Coal Grove, Ohio passed away Thursday January 1, 2026, at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center.

She was born on March 9, 1940, in Ashland, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Marvin and Faye Holbrook Ball.

Carol graduated from Coal Grove High School in 1958; she retired from Commonwealth Life Insurance Company after 35 years of service. She also worked as secretary to the Lawrence County Superintendent of schools and clerk for the Lawrence County Commissioners. She was a longtime member of Coal Grove Memorial Methodist Church where she served as Financial Secretary for 49 years and the Coal Grove Betterment Club where she served as secretary for several years. She was also the former president of the Lawrence County Democratic Women's Club and a former president of the Lawrence TB Board. She served as Senator and astronaut John Glenn's Lawrence County Co-coordinator in all his elections.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Brent Gool and a brother-in-law, Mike Shannon.

Survivors include one son, Brian Gool and his wife Melissa of Ashland; one sister Carmin Kay Shannon of Ironton; three grandchildren, Rachel (Zack) Klemme, Stephanie (Ryan) Meenach, Cody (Shanna Watson) Gool; three step grandchildren, Carly Barker, Ryan Barker. Jacob (Samantha) Barker; eight great grandchildren, Jaxon Meenach, Jace Meenach, Jensen Meenach, Bennett Klemme, Berklee Klemme, Blaine Klemme, Christian Barker and Jett Gool. Carol also leaves behind longtime family friend Sue Triplett and numerous other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Monday January 5, 2026, at the STEEN FUNERAL HOME, 13th STREET CHAPEL by Pastor Keith Hill. Burial will follow at the Highlands Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Monday at the funeral home.
