Darlene Stevens Obituary

Catlettsburg, KY - Darlene "Dottie" Sheila Stevens, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, at her home in Catlettsburg, KY. Born on September 21, 1946, in Willmar, Minnesota, Dottie's zest for life and her loving nature touched all who knew her.

Dottie's early life was spent in the nurturing embrace of her parents, Thomas Wilhem Docken and Esther Theresa Gallow Docken. She grew up alongside her brothers Harvey Levan Docken and Clark Delano Docken, who preceded her in death, as did her beloved husband, Randall Joe Stevens. Dottie's educational journey led her to be involved with the American Association for Higher Education and the New York Daily News.

Professionally, Dottie was known as a dedicated and passionate co-owner of Oasis Tanning Salon in Summit. Her entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by her commitment to her community, particularly as a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ashland. Dottie's faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and her unwavering commitment to helping others.

Dottie's most enduring legacy is undoubtedly her family, which she nurtured with love and joy. She is survived by her sons, Nicholas Gallow Docken Stevens and Shelly Welch of Ironville, and David Riffe and Toni of Westwood. Her grandchildren, Natalie Elizabeth Stevens and Olivia Docken Stevens, will carry forward the light of her spirit.

Dottie and her late husband Joe shared a unique and compassionate journey, as they opened their hearts and home at the Hack Estep Home for Boys. When they left, nine children came with them, and many more would follow, all welcomed into a loving and supportive environment. This remarkable act of kindness illustrates Dottie's extraordinary capacity for love and her passionate endeavor to make a difference in the lives of others.

Dottie's love extended beyond her human family to include numerous fur babies. A lover of all animals, Dottie's home was always filled with the warmth and companionship of her cherished pets. Her compassion for living creatures was a testament to her kind and spirited nature.

Those who knew Dottie would describe her as loving, passionate, and spirited. Her infectious enthusiasm for life, her unwavering dedication to her loved ones, and her boundless capacity to care for others will be deeply missed. Dottie's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved her, but her memory will continue to inspire and comfort them.

As we say goodbye to Dottie, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of giving. Her spirit will forever be a beacon of light for her family, her friends, and the many lives she touched. Dottie's journey on earth may have concluded, but her legacy of love and compassion will endure, resonating through the generations.

Funeral services will be held 11:00am Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ashland. Pastor Mark A. Kloha will officiate. Entombment will follow services at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8pm at the STEEN FUNERAL HOME 13TH ST. CHAPEL.
