Ashland, Kentucky - Dicky Martin a spirited and passionate voice of the Ashland Tomcats, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, at the age of 71.

Born in Ashland, Kentucky on May 5, 1954, Dicky was a treasured member of the Ashland community and a beacon of maroon and white pride. His journey began as the son of the late W. Richard "Dick" and Imogene "Jeanne" Glazier Martin, and from there, he grew to become an iconic figure in the world of sports commentary.

For nearly half a century, Dicky's voice resonated through the stands of Putnam Stadium and the Anderson Gym, where he passionately called games for the Ashland Tomcats' football and basketball teams. His dedication to the team was unmatched, his enthusiasm infectious, and his love for the game truly exemplified.

Dicky's career also led him to prestigious venues such as Soldier Field, the Gator Bowl, Ohio State's "Shoe," and RFK Stadium while providing play-by-play for the semipro West Virginia Rockets.

His talent shone brightly during his time covering Morehead State basketball games in the Wayne Martin coaching era, which included unforgettable moments at Madison Square Garden and participation in two NCAA tournaments. He was also a salesman for Modern Foods for over 20 years.

Dicky's commitment extended beyond the press box. He served diligently on the Boyd County Ambulance Board and was a faithful member of the Calvary Episcopal Church. His Christian faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in service and fellowship with others.

He is fondly remembered and survived by his son, James (Jilian) Martin; his daughter, Whitney Martin; and his brother, Scott (Susan) Martin. Dicky also leaves behind the mother of his children, Susan McDowell Martin.

His legacy continues through his four grandchildren, Maddox Martin, Mia Young, Quinn Martin and Wyatt Martin; two nieces, Hannah Brown, Rachel (Zach) Wells and great niece, Sutton Wells who will carry on the Martin family's maroon and white tradition.
