Geneva Hanks Obituary

Ashland, Kentucky - Geneva Grace Kitchen Hanks, 96, of Ashland, left this world peacefully for her heavenly home Thursday, November 27, 2025.

Geneva, also known as "Jenny Bug" by her grandsons and their friends, was born April 17, 1929, in Mudfork, WV. She grew up in Lawrence and Boyd County, attending high school in both places, and graduated from Webbville High School. Geneva was a homemaker much of her life and was employed by Pollock's for several years in the 1970's. She was a member of Plaza Community Church where she sang in the choir and was past treasurer and served as a board member of Wee Wisdom Day Care. Geneva also was bookkeeper and payroll manager for their family business, Jack Hanks Hair Replacement. She loved going on Sunday afternoon drives, day trips, and vacations with her family. She enjoyed cooking and working in her yard. She was well known for her big smile, generosity, and kind heart. Geneva loved the Lord, gospel music concerts, and attending church functions.

Her greatest joy was her family, and nothing made her happier than when she was with them all.

Geneva was the daughter of the late William and Flossie Kitchen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack B. Hanks; her oldest grandson, Brandon Kyle Nabors; sisters, Billie Powell, Lena Fannin, Betty Lilly, and infant sister, Mary Ellen.

Survivors include her daughter, Debbie Hanks Nabors of Ashland, KY; son, Jack D. Hanks and his wife, Tina, of Ashland, KY; grandson, Isaiah Jackson Hanks and his wife, Hannah; and great-grandsons, Jackson Kyle and Waylon Ray Hanks.

We will all miss her deeply but have the promise from God to be reunited in Heaven one day.

Per Geneva's request, a private service will be held at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel with Pastor Donny McKenzie bringing words of comfort. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Brandon Nabors to Nashville Rescue Mission, Men's Life Recovery Program, c/o John McKinnon, 639 Lafayette Street, Nashville, TN 37203.
