Gerald D. Hughes
Gerald D. Hughes, 84, of Ashland, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, February 13, 2020, from Kingsbrook Lifecare Center.
He was born August 9, 1935, in Owingsville, Ky., the son of the late Ora and Mary Eliza Newell Hughes.
He was retired from the U.S. Department of Labor, a Sargent in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, and a member of the Westwood Freewill Baptist Church. Gerald truly loved his family, was an avid hiker, bicyclist, and loved to travel, having visited all fifty states.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gene Hughes and Julian Hughes; one sister, Wanda Hedrick; and one great-grandchild, Connor Jude Hughes.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Josephine McKee Hughes; one daughter, Pamela (David) Sullivan of Fairview, Tenn.; one son, Duane (Lori) Hughes of Ashland; one sister-in-law, Jeanette (James) Hicks of Lexington, Ky.; four grandchildren, Christin Lotz, Austin Hughes, Jeremy Sullivan, and Lauren Hughes; three great-grandchildren, Christian Hughes, Carson Hughes and Harper Lotz.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2020, at Westwood Freewill Baptist Church by Rev. David Sullivan and Duane Hughes. Burial will follow in the Carlisle Cemetery in Carlisle, Ky. The family will receive friends from 4 till 6 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to mfhfuneralhome.com
