raceland, ky - James D. Evans "David", 77 of Raceland, Ky went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 28, 2025. David was born March 7, 1948, in Morehead, KY. He is a son of the late Milton Evans Jr and Myrtle Black Evans. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Linda Faye Madden Evans; two brothers, Larry Evans and Rodney Evans.

David is most known for his decades of work at Evans Funeral Home. He started working for his father, Uncle Guy and grandfather at just 14 years old. He helped many families with the loss of their loved ones in his 60+ years at the funeral home.

The families he helped have been telling funny stories of David's antics for years and we hope to hear more for years to come. He was kind as well as a cut-up. He will be remembered for sitting outside the funeral home during services with a cigarette in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other.

There was more to my dad than the funeral home. He loved to fish, especially for crappie and catfish. He spent many nights on the Ohio River fishing without getting a single bite but refused to leave. Some of those nights the boat would be anchored where I could just see the Greenup golden arches and my dad would tease me about being hungry, "bet you'd give 50 bucks for a cheeseburger" as he handed me peanut butter crackers, his snack of choice. He just loved being on the water it was hard for him to leave.

Dad loved to get out in his old car and truck. Some days he would drive one to the flea market just to come home, then fire up the other one just to go get lunch or see a friend. He was a very social man making lots of friends over his 77 years. I could go on, but I just want to say that I'll miss my father as I am sure many of you will too.

Surviving David is his son, Shawn (Kaitlyn) Evans; granddaughter, Carlin Faye Evans; sister, Virginia (Ralph) Ratliff; brother Doug (Cathy) Profitt; in-laws, Perry (Susan) Madden, Roger (Alesa) Madden, Genna (Jeff) Sanders, Mary (Chris) Ralph; nieces, nephews and so many special friends, Henrietta, Bill, Al, Peggy, Bill, Bruce just to name a few that came to see him almost daily.

A visitation for David will be Saturday, August 2, 2025 from 2:00 pm until 8:00pm at the Evans Funeral Home in Raceland.

In honoring my dad's wishes the funeral and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers please just bring your favorite memory of my father for me to keep. After all, one of my dad's favorite things was sharing stories with friends. We would also be honored if you would donate to a local charity of your choice. He loved this community and helping those within.
