Catlettsburg, KY - Kathryn "Kathy" McGuire Nunley 80, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky was "Promoted to Glory" while surrounded by her family on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at King's Daughters Medical Center.
She was born on September 24, 1945, to the late Milton and Dixie Compton McGuire. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Joe Ed Nunley; a son, Bradley Joe "B.J." Nunley; and a sister Frances Ross.
Kathy was a graduate of Boyd County High School and retired after 34 years of dedicated service as Assistant Office Manager at T. McGinnis Trucking Company. She was an active and faithful member of Faith Independent Baptist Church, where she served as Choir Director, sang in a trio, and faithfully prepared the weekly church bulletin. Known for her independence and attention to detail, Kathy was always willing to lend a helping hand. She had a vibrant personality, and her warm smile could brighten any room. Most importantly, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and a faithful servant of the Lord.
Kathy is survived by her son, Brett Nunley, and his wife, Rhonda, of Flatwoods; her grandson, Colton Nunley, and his wife, Sousie, of Cannonsburg; her siblings, Andrea Sue Sparks; Jerri Kittle of Ashland, Kentucky; Robert McGuire and his wife, Imogene, of Cannonsburg, Kentucky; and John McGuire and his wife, Pam, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky; special friends she considered family, including William Dillon, Judy McGinnis, Pamela McGinnis, Kimberly McGinnis Collins, Travis Collins, Shelby Jones, Nathan Jones, Will Jones, Theo Jones, Thomas Keating, and Emily Keating; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Steen Funeral Home, 13th Street Chapel, with Pastor Tom Keelin officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park, where Colton Nunley, Brian Sparks, Mark Kazee, Chris Sparks, Nathan Skaggs and Thomas Keating will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
