Rush, Kentucky - Matthew Vernon Willis, 69, of Rush, Kentucky, was born April 5, 1956, in Oakdale, Louisiana. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 22, 2025, at KDMC after a brief battle with cancer.

Matt retired from Local 53 and also worked at O'Brien's Archery and Steven's Guns and Firearms. He loved spending time in the woods and had a passion for archery and shooting. More than anything, he cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Sherri Hulett Willis; daughters Rachelle Duncan of Parkersburg, WV, and Danielle Willis of Rush, KY; and grandchildren Brooke Willis, Dakota Willis, and Mark Duncan of Parkersburg, WV. He is also survived by his brother Robert Willis of Denham Springs, LA, along with many nieces and nephews.

Matt was preceded in death by his son Mark Willis; parents Alvis and Lena Willis; siblings Clyde and Lurline Willis, Gerald and Mary Melancon; sister-in-law Virginia Willis; and father-in-law Charles Hulett.

Friends and family may call on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 1-8 p.m. at Steen Funeral Home, 13th Street Chapel. The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Gospel Light Baptist Church on Trinity Lane, Ashland, KY by Pastor Jason Porter. Burial will follow at Catlettsburg Cemetery.
