Ashland, KY - Early in the morning of October 14, having finally completed all of the items on her to-do list, Norman (Gigi) Bocard Thompson quietly passed in her sleep at the wonderful age of ninety and one month. She was a lifelong
resident of her beloved Ashland, Ky. She was preceded in death by her
parents, K.E. and Ruth Bocard and her husband of over fifty years,
Robert Thompson.
The three guideposts for her life were family, faith, and friends. She was
very proud to be part of the "Bocard Five" consisting of her dear brothers, Warren and Ken, and cherished sisters, Judy Thomas and Molly Humphrey.
They had many great adventures including travels to Hawaii, New England, Europe, and the most storied trips of all- the annual month long Myrtle Beach trip. They did not always agree, however never let anything test their bonds of devotion. They talked the talk and walked the walk of what a loving, caring family should be. Family first always and without exception leaving a wonderful legacy for all the Bocard generations to follow.
Gigi loved her family unconditionally and never hesitated to let them know. Her family includes daughters Nancy (Brett) Bradley and Susan (David)
Mckenzie. It must be noted she was especially fond of her son-in-laws.
She adored her grandchildren, Rhese (Melissa) Mckenzie, Kaleb McKenzie, Beau (Hannah) Bradley, Allison (Niket) Parikh and great-granddaughter, Peyton, who all attest to the fact that she was the GOAT of all grandmothers.
Holiday celebrations, from Fourth of July parades with fireworks to her famous Christmas morning breakfasts, are treasured family memories. A meal or snack at Gigi's house was always a delicious experience, highlighted by amazing food and plenty of fun and laughs. Her specialties included fudge, divinity, and pound cake.
Gigi was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church her entire life. She cherished her church family and especially enjoyed after church dinners with her church ladies. One of her favorite weeks of the year was the
annual Holy Week services and luncheons, where many local denominations came together to celebrate "life without end."
She kept her calendar full of activities, meetings, and get-togethers. Gigi was active in the South Ashland Homemakers Club, Hallmark Collectors Group and the Red Hatters. Many nights playing dominoes and cards were enjoyed with family and friends, including the two Lynns,
Connie and Linda.
She was an amazing crafter and quilter. Several of her creations have graced the Governor's Mansion Christmas tree. Her friend, Wanda, was one of her favorite crafting partners.
One of her favorite places to be in spring, summer, and fall was sitting in her big wicker rocking chair on her screened-in porch, sipping iced tea, reading her A.D I. Newspaper, and looking out on her flower garden. Her favorite treat was a piece of Ruth Hunt cream candy.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Cornerstone Methodist Church, 2203 29th Street, from 3-5 p.m., November 1. Gigi was always very giving and
compassionate to those in need. She used to say, "There would be plenty
for the needy, if it were not for the greedy." With this in mind and to celebrate her amazing life journey, her family encourages all to practice grace by performing a random act of kindness.
