Phyllis Mae McGranahan-Cox passed away gently on February 24, 2025, after a 16 year fight with cancer. She was at her Ashland, Kentucky home with her husband Roy and their pet family by her side. Phyllis was 73 years old.
Phyllis was born October 23, 1951 in Ashland, Kentucky. She retired from Ashland Oil, then worked briefly for Cingular Wireless.
She met Roy in 2006 and they married in 2009. They lived in Ashland along with their beloved husky named Spaz. Phyllis loved and fiercely protected animals and her family. Her loss is felt deeply within the home.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her mother Mae Marie McGranahan, father Cecil Paul McGranahan, sisters Julie Ann Wells and Delores Pennington.
She is survived by her husband Roy Matthew Cox, Brother Paul Ray McGranahan and his wife Joy McGranahan, father in law Donald Gene Cox, her chosen sister Julia 'Tutti' Chaffins and many nieces and nephews.
The family is so grateful to the 3J staff at KDMC for their kindness and care during Phyllis' 33 day stay. Her husband Roy is especially grateful to them for getting Phyllis home to be with her family one last time.
At Phyllis' request, there is no viewing or funeral. In lieu of anything else, adopt a dog, cat, or animal of your choice from a shelter, or donate to the Boyd County Animal Shelter, where Phyllis adopted her special dog Spaz, an abused husky that wouldn't let anyone near him, until Phyllis.
