Franklin Furnace, Ohio - Sharon Kaye "Cookie" McMackin, 78, of Franklin Furnace, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, at Ashland Community Hospice.

Cookie was born September 28, 1947, the daughter of the late Elza and Margaret Delawder of Rock Camp, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and high school sweetheart, James William McMackin, Jr., and her infant grandson, Dane Patrick McMackin.

Cookie shared more than half a century of life with her beloved Jim. Of their many years together, 49½ were spent as husband and wife before his passing in 2017. Their life together took them from their early years in Texas and Kansas while Jim served in the United States Air Force, to building a loving home and raising their two children, Jodi and Josh. Together, they proudly watched both of their children become educators, and later embraced one of their greatest joys-the role of grandparents. Through more than five decades together, Cookie and Jim were the touchstones of their family, steadfastly present for the celebrations and accomplishments, as well as the difficult days when simply having Mom and Dad there made things seem a little easier. Their life together was built on family, commitment, and a love that endured through every season. Even after Jim's passing, Cookie continued to be a source of strength for her family.

She is survived by her two children, Jodi (Shawn) Armstrong of Franklin Furnace, Ohio, and Joshua McMackin of South Shore, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Shawn "Peyton" Armstrong, Noah McMackin, and Allison McMackin; a brother, Michael Delawder of Ironton, Ohio; two nieces, Wendy (Lonnie) Nixon and Annalice Delawder; and one nephew, Nathan James Perry.

More than anything, Cookie loved her family, and perhaps no title brought her more joy than "Mamaw Mac." Her grandchildren were a tremendous source of pride and happiness, and her calendar was rarely without a ballgame. If one of her grandchildren was playing, chances were Mamaw Mac wanted to be there cheering them on.

That love of sports extended to her Green Bobcats. Cookie loved watching "The 'Cats" and enjoyed being among the Bobcat faithful. Her family will always be grateful for the wonderful Green fans who so graciously lent a hand over the years, making sure she could comfortably get to her spot and enjoy the games she loved. Those acts of kindness meant more than they probably ever knew.

Cookie's life was centered on the people she loved, and the greatest part of the legacy she leaves behind can be found in her family-the children she raised, the grandchildren she adored, and the countless memories they will carry with them.
