Thomas Alan Stambaugh, 76, of Ironton went to his heavenly home on Friday June 9, 2023, at King's Daughters Medical Center. Tom was born on May 24, 1947, in Ashland, KY to the late Virgil and Alfreda Hicks Stambaugh.

He grew up in Westwood and graduated from Fairview High School. After high school, Tom was drafted into the US Army where he proudly served his country. He served in Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star Medal. Tom physically made it home by the grace of God and the prayers of his mother. Mentally, Vietnam never went away. Tom went to work for the US Postal Service as a mail carrier. He served as a Delivery Supervisor at the Ashland Post Office and retired as Postmaster of South Shore KY. He had over 23 years of service upon retirement. Tom earned an associate degree from Ashland Business College in 1977 and was a Kentucky Colonel. Tom was a member of the local American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served a term as Post Commander of VFW Post #8850.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Tristen Yates and by a brother, Leslie Stambaugh.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 26 years Deana Palmer Stambaugh, sons, Doug (Kristi) Stambaugh, Mark (Amanda) Palmer; daughters, Teri (Tony) Thomas, Amy (Joe) Speaks, brothers Larry Stambaugh, Dan (Nancy) Stambaugh; sisters, Velma (Hoss) Cartwright, Jan (Steve) Gilreath, Debbie Hughes, Paula Bocook; brother-in-law, Richard (Joyce) Duvendeck, and sister-in-law Debbie Stambaugh. Grandchildren Amber (Steven), Isaac, Madison, Kendall and great grandchildren Beau, Wes, Naomi and Bash who brought him great joy. Before his passing Tom gave his life to the Lord. Tom was a loving son, husband, father, brother, papaw, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed but having the promise of seeing him again in heaven has given the family great comfort.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. 7th St. Ironton, Ohio with Brother Steve Gilreath and Brother Steven Clark conducting the service. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery in the Veterans section with military graveside rites provided by VFW #8850.
