Toby Isaac Anderson Duty Obituary

Toby Isaac Anderson Duty, 36, formerly of Big Creek, W Va., respectfully returned his entrance ticket on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018, at his residence in Rush, Ky. His mortal coil was shed following a long battle with stubbornness and a characteristic recklessness of consequences.

Isaac was born Feb. 4, 1982, the final son of the late Anthony R. Duty, Sr. and Linda K. Wells Duty.

Although he could have gotten by on charm and wit alone, Isaac was employed as a journeyman lineman. He was a member of the IBEW Local 71, Columbus, Ohio.

Like his favorite poet Edgar A. Poe, Isaac was "remarkable for his general cleverness, his feats of activity, his wayward temper, extreme personal beauty, his musical recitations of verse, and power of extemporaneous tale-telling." He was the best man you will never know, though he would have been the first to tell you he was of no account. Despite being better than most everyone at everything, he did not care much. For better or worse, he obeyed only the rules he chose himself.

Isaac was especially fond of basketball, weightlifting, kayaking, animals, babies, marine biology, and bemoaning his station in life. It is also said his loquaciousness was legendary.

Though harsh experience deprived him of faith in man or woman, he loved without condition and was loved by many more than even he knew. In addition to his parents, Isaac was preceded in death by his sister, Lesley "Nikki" (Duty) Workman. Isaac is survived by friends including Ryan Timms and John and Julia Farley; his brothers, Anthony Duty, Jr. and Nathaniel Duty; his fiancée Amie Frazier; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles who meant more to him than they probably know.

Private memorial services will be held the weekend of Aug. 18-19 at his family home in Big Creek, W Va. Family and friends are welcome to inquire. In lieu of flowers, a rooster may be sacrificed to Asklepios. Donations in Isaacs' honor may be made to Canines for Disabled Kids, caninesforkids.org/contribute/
