Verna Lee Menshouse Obituary

Westwood, Kentucky - Verna Lee Caudill Menshouse, age 99, renown gospel pianist and teacher of Westwood, Kentucky, most recently of King's Daughters and Sons Assisted Living, Ashland, Kentucky, passed peacefully at Community Hospice Care Center on October 2, 2025.

She was born on June 1, 1926 in Russell, Kentucky, to Lakie Marie Hutchinson Caudill, and Charles Caudill who preceded her in death. She started her musical career at age 16 as church pianist and continued playing for several different congregations until she retired after 80 years in the service of the Lord. She had over 400 piano students and never charged more than $4.00, or whatever the family could afford, to further sacred music. Her kitchen was always filled with the aromas of pot roast and apple pies. Her daughters and many of their friends were well fed at her table. Her nieces commented that " It smells like Aunt Verna's house", whenever they smelled chicken or bacon frying.

Her husband and true love of 58 years, Walter Franklin Menshouse, preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Lynn Menshouse (Paul Kram), Deena Lee Menshouse Fairchild (Edward), Waletta Kyle Menshouse, five grandchildren, Clinton Edward Fairchild, Jessica Lee Fairchild Skeens (Rick), Franklin Alexander Fairchild, Kara Elizabeth Riffe, Jennifer Kaitlin Riffe and her treasured great grandsons, Walter Grayson Music, McKinley Matthew Music, Nolan Wolf Johnson, Edward Grey Fairchild, William Preston Riffe-Styer and Gideon Thomas Lee Skeens.

She is also survived by her devoted sister Rena Kay Phillips of Russell, Kentucky and brother Randal Keith Caudill (Donna) of Simpsonville, South Carolina. And two caring sisters-in-law, Charlotte Sue Vanhoose and Betty Lou Menshouse and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her daughters are forever grateful for everyone's kindness and care at King's Daughters and Sons Assisted Care and Community Hospice Care Center and friends who showed such an abundance of loving care, especially Betty Menshouse.

On Sunday, October 5th, family and friends are invited to visitation from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM, at PRESTON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, followed by funeral services at 2:00 PM by Rev. Edward Fairchild, Jr. Graveside rites and interment will be in Dixon Cemetery, Westwood.
